Perfect
One Clean has been in the carpet cleaning business now for over 10
years serving Olathe, Lenexa, Overland Park, Spring Hill, Shawnee and
other surrounding cities in the Kansas City metro area. The majority of
the calls we receive are due to
pet urine stains and odor. The
process of removing pet stains and odors can be very tricky due to all
the products that our available to home owners. The majority of these
products for removing pet odors simply makes the urine odor worse. In
other words these store bought carpet products are a carpet cleaners
nightmare. Most pet owners, when they see their pet has had an accident
on the carpet, will run to the cabinet and grab a bottle of carpet stain
remover and blast away on the pet stain. If this process continues over
and over in one room, the urine odor can become very
strong.
At this point it no longer is a carpet cleaning job, but a restoration
job. Steam cleaning carpets that have severe pet damage can make the
odor worse if you do not address the urine issue first. We recently had a
pet urine call from Overland Park, Kansas where the homeowner had been
putting an enzyme on the pet stains every time his pet had an accident.
The smell was so bad that he went and rented a Rug Doctor thinking that
would help, but all it did was make it worse. Finally, he called us and
we were able to salvage the carpet which was only a year old.
When
a pet stain is fresh, its ph level is about a 5 or a 6 this is the time
to address the issue. If the pet stain sits for to long its ph level
can go from a 5 or 6 to "alkaline" 10 to 12 on the ph scale. Once it
reaches this level it becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days
or longer pet urine begins to change the dye structure of the carpet
making the stain permanent.
The
salts and crystals left behind as the urine dries draw moisture to
them. So in the summer months when the humidity is high the salts
attract the moisture in the air. This can cause the odor to become worse
as the ammonia gas is released as the moisture evaporates.
